Sarkozy Calls For Debate On Islam

Following last year’s controversial ban on the full Islamic veil in public places, French President Nicolas Sarkozy now wants to formalise the relationship between Islam and France's fiercely secular state.
Last week Sarkozy joined British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in announcing multiculturalism is not working and setting out to formalize the relationship between Islam and the fiercely secular state of France.
The role of Islam in France is going to be a central issue in the 2012 presidential campaign.
Secularism in France, a country with Catholic roots but a deep-rooted suspicion of religion, has been enforced by law for over a century. The Republic does not officially recognize, pay salaries for, nor subsidize any religion.
It is henceforth forbidden to erect or display any religious signs or emblems publicly, and political meetings may not take place in places of worship.
The law does not address prayer meetings in the city streets (some mosques in France have overcrowding issues, thus leading to an overspill into the streets), which is a particular bugbear of the National Front.

Indonesia Pressured Over Ahmadiyah Muslim Sect Killings

Indonesia has been criticised by US groups and others after a murderous attack against supporters of the minority Ahmadiyah Muslim sect.

This attack was sickening because the anti-Ahmadiyya Muslim attack was allowed to happen because law enforcement agencies just stood by and did nothing. The attack witnessed conservative Muslims with machetes, rocks, and sticks, and while they were stoning Ahmadiyya Muslims to death they were in a state of high religious frenzy.

This brutal attack on Ahmadiyya followers reflects the continued failure of the Indonesian government to protect religious minorities from harassment and attacks and to hold the perpetrators accountable, said Donna Guest, Asia-Pacific Deputy Director at Amnesty International.

The recent brutal killings against the Ahmadiyya community and attacks against Christians is clear evidence that Indonesia is not so tolerant. Therefore, President Obama must stop making sweeping statements. After all, his comments about Islam in Cairo were not based on facts but sadly the recent massacre of innocents in the name of Allah in Indonesia is a reality

International Petition As Afghan Christians Face Execution

Christian rights activists launched on Monday, February 7, an international petition urging Afghanistan to release detained converts to Christianity, amid fears they may be executed.
Among Christian prisoners in immediate danger are 45-year-old Said Musa, a father of six, and another Christian, identified as Shoaib Assadullah, 25. Both men could face execution on charges of apostasy, or abandoning Islam, a crime punished by death under Islamic law and upheld by Afghanistan's constitution.
Musa has been held in prison since May last year, after a local TV network broadcast secret images of Afghan Christians being baptized by westerners. The broadcast caused outrage as protesters demanded the expulsion of those who appeared in the footage.
He sought asylum at the German Embassy but was arrested by authorities after calls by the deputy secretary of the Afghan parliament, Abdul Sattar Khawasi, for the public execution of the alleged converts, sparking a nationwide manhunt.
Musa, who lost his left leg in a landmine explosion in the 1990s, worked as a physiotherapist for the Red Cross for 15 years while assisting in the treatment of fellow amputees.

Violence In Egypt As Foes, Supporters Of Hosni Mubarak Clash

Clashes have broken out between pro- and anti-government demonstrators in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
Protesters from both sides threw stones at each other in Tahrir Square, the epicentre of ongoing opposition demonstrations against President Hosni Mubarak for the past nine days.
Al Jazeera correspondents, reporting from the scene, said that more than 500 people have been injured in Wednesday's clashes that are continuing to rage.
Earlier, witnesses said the military allowed thousands of pro-Mubarak supporters, armed with sticks and knives, to enter the square. Opposition groups said Mubarak had sent in thugs to suppress anti-government protests.

Unrest In North Africa And Middle East May Spread To Syria

What began as a popular uprising that toppled the Tunisian government before spreading into Algeria, Jordan, Yemen, Sudan and, of course, Egypt, may now be headed for Syria.

Opposition movements in Syria are calling for mass protests on Saturday against the rule of President Bashar Al-Assad.

The groups are organizing on Facebook, with several pages promoting protests in Damascus, Aleppo and other cities.

Total Internet Blackout In Egypt

Egypt's last working internet service provider, the Noor Group, has been disconnected, a US Web monitoring company said, leaving the crisis-torn country completely offline.
Mobile telephone networks have also been severely disrupted in Egypt along with the Internet.
Activists have used mobile phones and the internet to organise the most serious anti-government demonstrations in decades, protests inspired by the uprising in Tunisia.
Google, in response to the Internet blockade in Egypt, said on Monday that it had created a way to post messages to microblogging service Twitter by making telephone calls.
Google worked with Twitter and freshly acquired SayNow, a startup specialising in social online voice platforms, to make it possible for anyone to tweet by leaving a message at any of three telephone numbers.
Voice mail messages left at +16504194196; +390662207294 or +97316199855 will instantly be converted into text messages, referred to as tweets, and posted at Twitter with an identifying hashtag of #egypt.
People can call the same numbers to listen to messages or hear them online at twitter.com/speak2tweet

EU Becoming Christian club Turkish Minister Says At Davos Forum

Turkey's deputy prime minister complained Saturday that the European Union was becoming an inward-looking Christian club, slamming a lack of progress in his country's bid to join.
Speaking on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos that included EU President Herman Van Rompuy, Ali Babacan said: We always thought the EU is a big peace project ... but then the enlargement process literally stalled.

This Is The Arab World's Berlin Moment

In five days of unprecedented protests that have rocked the Arab world, more than 100 people have been killed, investors and tourists have taken fright, Mubarak has offered a first glimpse of a plan to step down and 80 million long-suffering Egyptians are caught between hope for democratic reform and fear of chaos.

As in Tunis, Egypt’s exploding young population, most of then underemployed and frustrated by oppression at the hands of a corrupt and rapacious elite, were demanding a full clear-out of the old guard, not just a reshuffle of the governing class.

Iran Hangs Iranian-Dutch Woman Sahra Bahrami

A Dutch-Iranian woman, arrested after taking part in anti-government protests in Iran, has been hanged for drug smuggling, Iranian officials have said.
Sahra Bahrami, 46, was jailed for a year after being arrested after joining a protest in 2009, while visiting relatives.
Dutch officials had said they were extremely concerned about her case.
Her execution brings the total number hanged in the country so far this year to 66, according to media reports.

Free Speech on Trial in Europe

The hate speech trial of Lars Hedegaard, the president of the Danish Free Press Society and the International Free Press Society, began in a courthouse near Copenhagen on January 24. Hedegaard, who has been charged with racism for critical comments he made about Islam, faces up to two years in prison.
Hedegaard's trial, which is similar to recent or current ones in Austria, Finland, France, Italy and the Netherlands, represents a landmark case that will establish the limits of free speech in a country where the politically correct elite routinely seek to silence public discussion about the growing problem of Muslim immigration. The trial also exemplifies the increasing use of lawfare: the malicious use of European courts to silence criticism of Islam.

Iran Censors Ashton's Plunging Neckline

The outfit worn by European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to the nuclear talks in Istanbul appeared too revealing for the sensibilities of Iranian media - who sought to correct the faux pas by censoring her neckline in front page photographs.
Ashton made an effort to steer clear of any physical contact with Iranian chief negotiator Saeed Jalili during the talks in order to avoid offending the Muslim world. What she did not know was that her seemingly conservative top was enough to appear immodest, prompting the Iranian censors to give her a higher neckline.

Anti-government Protests Erupt In Yemen

With no fewer than five major areas of unrest/revolutions/regime changes going on in the Arab world, Arab satellite television, one of the mainstays of information dissemination in the Middle East, has been playing a major role in communicating news – or attempting, if not to suppress it, then at least to spin it.

NYPD Cops' Training Included An Anti-Muslim Horror Flick

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) called on the New York Police Department (NYPD) to investigate how a notorious anti-Muslim propaganda film came to be used in mandatory counterterrorism training. CAIR-NY also called for new NYPD guidelines to ensure that officer training materials offer only unbiased information about any religious or minority community.

Twitter And Facebook Are The New Weapons Of Middle East Protest

The footage was as immediate as it was electrifying. Egypt's biggest demonstrations in three decades were relayed virtually live to the rest of the world by people posting mobile phone pictures via Twitter, the US-based microblogging service.

The protests were largely organised by apparently leaderless online activists on another hugely popular website, Facebook. They asked people to stand up, proclaiming: We have to show the world that we are not a cowardly, submissive people.

The swift and unexpected overthrow of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's 23-year-old regime in Tunisia and the mass unrest in Egypt have sparked a lively debate on how far social media networks can challenge governments around the world.

Sweden Democrats Leader Calls For Fight Against Islamism

Sweden’s far-right leader on Wednesday called for a fight against Islamic extremism at a parliamentary debate in connection with the December suicide attack in Stockholm.
Terrorism is not an isolated threat. It is a form of Islamic tactic and it is Islamism as a political ideology that needs to be fought and mapped out, Sweden Democrat leader Jimmie Åkesson said.
Åkesson, whose Sweden Democrats' requested Wednesday's parliamentary debate following the country's first-ever suicide attack, insisted an important debate had been stifled in Sweden by a fear of being branded Islamophobic.

One Day Australia Will Live Under Sharia

An Australian-born convert to Islam, Siddiq-Conlon is the self-anointed leader of a group called Sharia4Australia, which is pushing for the introduction of sharia courts as a first step towards achieving Islamic law.
One day Australia will live under sharia; it's inevitable, he said. If they (Australians) don't accept it, that's not our problem. We hope, and our objective is to have a peaceful transition, but when you look at history that has never been the case. There's always been a fight. It is inevitable that one day there will be a struggle for Islam in Australia.

Germany Applies Anti-Nazi Laws In Crackdown On Salafi Islamic Groups

German police raided homes and offices linked to two Islamic groups this week, using anti-Nazi laws of association.
The raids -- staged in the western cities of Moenchengladbach, Bremen and Braunschweig were aimed at Salafist groups Invitation to Paradise and the Islamic Culture Center of Bremen. Invitation to Paradise's leader has called for sharia, or Islamic law, to prevail one day but has specifically opposed using violence to impose it.
While some experts say police overreacted in conducting the raids, German officials have come under great pressure from local media and citizen groups to respond to some Muslim organizations that appear to resist joining mainstream German society.

Last Christian Man In Town

The town of Habbaniya Cece, in Anbar Province, used to be mostly Christian. Now, in this town of 10,000 people, only one Christian family remains.
Romel Hawal, 48, was born in this town, but now, he said, his 11-year-old son knows no other Christians and has no memory of attending a church service.
When my son swears, it is on the Koran, not the Bible, Mr. Hawal lamented.
His wife wants to leave town or leave the country, joining what is becoming an exodus of Christians from Iraq and throughout the Middle East. But Mr. Hawal said he felt an obligation to stay. And he found support from an unlikely source.....

Gross Violation Of Religious Freedoms In The Occupied Part Of Cyprus On Christmas

During the morning service on Christmas at the Church of Agios Synesios at Rizokarpaso, located in the northern Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus, so-called police officers of the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime entered the church, ordered the priest to stop the liturgy, forced the priest and the Christian Orthodox Cypriot worshippers attending the service out of the church and proceeded to lock its doors.

The Government of the Republic of Cyprus condemns this unacceptable action of the Turkish occupation regime carried out on one of the most holy days for Christianity. The act constitutes a clear violation of the basic human rights and fundamental freedoms, and in particular, the religious freedoms of the Christian Orthodox Greek Cypriots who continue to live in the northern occupied part of Cyprus.

Beheading in Germany

Cultural enrichment at its very finest. A 30-year old Kurd from Iraq was properly executed on Friday in the backyard of a baker’s shop in Kiel- Gaarden by a group of Lebanese Kurds. The victim had to kneel down before his torturers, before they slit his throat and cut his head off in cold blood. The SPD (Socialist Party) local adviser chairman Bruno Levtzow had nothing better to do than urgently warning of sweeping judgements or generalizations, which would cause injustice to the large majority of the law-abiding immigrants.

American Islamophobia

...what is irrational is indulging Islam and pretending it's just another religion. That's more than irrational, it's downright stupid. It is as foolish as keeping a large predatory wild animal as a pet, sooner or later you will be eaten and you will deserve it....

Mubarak: Iranian Influence Spreading Like A Cancer Across Arab World

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak compared Iran's growing influence in the Middle East to a cancer, according to a cable released by the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.

President Mubarak has made it clear that he sees Iran as Egypt's — and the region's — primary strategic threat, says the secret cable, sent April 28, 2009, from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. "His already dangerous neighborhood, he has stressed, has only become more so since the fall of Saddam, who, as nasty as he was, nevertheless stood as a wall against Iran, according to Mubarak. He now sees Tehran's hand moving with ease throughout the region, from the Gulf to Morocco, as he told a recent congressional delegation.

The Real Reasons For The Massacres Of Christians And Jews In The Middle East

How can we stop the slaughter of Christians in the Islamic world; how can we prevent the next massacre in Iraq, Turkey, the Philippines, Nigeria, wherever Islamic groups may be?
If we ask the theologian and professor Father Peter Madros, now in the Patriarch of Jerusalem, and formerly the director of the Frères College in Bethlehem, where he fought the decimation of Christians, he clearly indicates the explanation in the text of the Qur'an.
The heart of the problem is right herein the West: The Islamist world is determined to build a world in which the other two main faiths are held in a state of cultural, religious and political subjection.
In the interpretation of vast well-funded organizations, and even entire countries such as Iran, this amounts to a declaration of war. This is the war that Islamism now wants to win. Not everyone in that world feels this way, but bombs make a lot of noise, while good will remains silent.

UK The Epicenter Of World Wide Islamic Terror

Some 4-1/2years ago, Melanie Phillups published a book called Londonistan, an expose about the way in which, astoundingly, Britain had become the most important center, outside the Islamic world itself, for the production and export of Islamic terrorism.

Worse yet, even after the 9/11 attacks and the 7/7 London Tube and bus bombings, the British political, legal and security establishments were still refusing to get to grips with the threat posed to Britain by militant Muslims who wanted to conquer it for Islam.

Given the terrifying nature of what she wrote in that book, the fact is that, ever since it was published, a steady stream of revelations has proved that she was absolutely right.

Taimour Abdulwahab Al-Abdaly, who blew himself up in a terrorist attack in Stockholm, was yet another radicalised British Muslim university graduate. He was but the latest in an unremitting procession of British Muslims who have committed terrorist attacks in other countries. And many have been educated to a high level in Britain.

Helsinki Drops Muslim Women-Only Pool Sessions

The City of Helsinki will stop reserving special hours for Muslim women to use the public pool in Jakomäki. In the future, the timeslot for Muslim ladies will be open to all women.
Other swimmers had criticised the practice, according to Teemu Raatikainen, who manages the pool.
Previously, the Jakomäki swimming hall blocked off Saturday mornings specifically for Muslim women. The women's session followed a swimming class for Muslim girls.
The Jakomäki pool reopened on Wednesday after being closed for renovation. From now on, the pool will be open to all women—and off-limits to men—on Tuesday evenings.

Muslim Halal Food Sales Supporting Terrorism?

Paris :  Halal food, food prepared according to Islamic sharia law, is becoming an increasing part of the Western diet and has become a multi-billion dollar global industry.
But CBN News has discovered that some of that money is funneled to groups tied to terrorism.

So what's the big deal about halal food? To some Frenchmen who are seeing the growing Islamization of their country, it's a very big deal.
Islam is introducing sharia into our society and that's not clear for people, Alain Wagner, a French activist with the Alliance Against Sharia, said. When you see halal food in shops you think, 'Oh, it's just a kind of food.' No. it's sharia.
According to some experts, a portion of the proceeds from halal food sales in France go to groups tied to terrorism.

Dutch Turkish Community Raises Alarm About Its Disaffected Youth

A group of Dutch Turkish professionals, including teachers, researchers and civil servants, has written to the Volkskrant to raise the alarm about the extremely worrying position of many Dutch Turkish youngsters.
A growing number of Dutch-born Turks are suffering from psychological problems and apathy and are either turning to crime or radical Islam, the group says in its open letter.
The Turkish community is very inward-looking. We have tried to solve the problems ourselves but our self reliance has not worked, one of the signatories, Aydid Daldal told the paper.

Immigration: Greek Wall To Stop The Migrants

Greece has unveiled plans to build a giant 128-mile long wall along its border with Turkey to keep out illegal immigrants.
Officials insist the barrier is the only way to halt the march of human cargo across the EU’s most vulnerable border.

Interior Minister Christian Papoutsis said it was necessary after an estimated 128,000 people entered illegally last year – 350 a day.
He insisted Greece could no longer tolerate this and had a duty to act. The minister said: Co-operation with other EU states is going well. Now we plan to construct a fence to deal with illegal immigration.

Al-Qaeda: Swedish Blasts Only The Beginning

An internet posting on Monday, attributed to a senior al-Qaeda leader in Iraq, warned that last weekend’s deadly bombings in Stockholm were “only the beginning, and threatened attacks against Nato and Europe.

In an audio recording on the Shumukh al-Islam Islamic website, a man identified as Abu Suleiman al-Nasser, a leader of the al-Qaeda affiliate in Iraq, warned that the Sweden attacks were only the beginning of a new era in our jihad, or holy war.

Bombing Opens Vein Of Christian Anger In Egypt

The New Year's Day suicide bombing of a church that killed 21 people has opened up a vein of fury among Egypt's Christians, built up over years of what they call government failure to address persistent discrimination and violence against their community.
Christian protests spread to Cairo from the northern city of Alexandria where the attack took place. Late Sunday, riots erupted outside the cathedral-headquarters of the Coptic Church after the country's top Muslim religious figures and government officials met with Pope Shenouda III.

The Profound Problem Of Muslim Immigration

As the West has accepted extensive immigration from Islamic countries, unexpected social and political problems have followed. While rising crime rates, rampant unemployment and a heavy load on our much-appreciated welfare systems are severe problems in itself, a distinct and dramatically more significant problem is the subtle subversion of our free and democratic societies, also known as "Stealth Jihad".The retired Islamic scholar Sam Solomon, in this compact book Al-Hijra, The Islamic Doctrine of Immigration, explains why seemingly unrelated incidents are in fact rooted in Islamic tradition and are steps on the path to create a fully Islamized society.
